In 2007 the SHCG made a new discovery since carrying out significant research to help control the Varroa mite which is currently devastating the honeybee population.

This project is the only one like it in the UK, probably in the world, as the SHCG are the only people known to have been able to selectively breed this honeybee and the achievement potential has been recognised all over the world.
